To improve the air we breathe and our health, the California Air Resources Board outlawed the use of perchloroethylene (Perc), a synthetic chemical and its machinery used by dry cleaners.  Some dry cleaners are beginning to use Green dry cleaning methods which use water-based cleaning or liquid carbon dioxide (CO₂).
