Incorporation   January 28, 1960, as a General Law city.
Location Southeast section of Los Angeles County, approximately six miles east of downtown Los Angeles.
Areas 6.6 square miles (4,160 acres)
Airports Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is located approximately 30 miles west, and the Ontario International Airport is approximately 40 miles to the east.
Freeways Commerce is directly served by the Santa Ana (I-5) and Long Beach (I-710) Freeways, and is located in the center of the entire Southern California freeway network.
Railways The rail spur service within the city is provided by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF)and Union Pacific railroads.
Harbors The port of Long Beach is 20 miles to the southwest and the port of Los Angeles is 25 miles to the southwest.
Public Transit Commerce has its own municipal bus system which carries approximately 800,000 passengers annually. No fare is charged. The Montebello Bus Line and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) also serve the area. The Metrolink commuter trains stop at the Commerce station daily.
