The Commissions and Boards are created by the City Council to obtain increased public input and citizen participation into the determination of City programs and policies. These community-based commissions play a vital role in bringing transparency, change, and growth to the City of Commerce. Most commissions are comprised of five members who serve on the Commission for a two-year term expiring at the next General Municipal election. There is no term limit for commissioners.

Individuals may not serve on more than one Commission, Committee or Board. This does not apply to City Council subcommittee, Pageant Steering Committee and Measure AA Advisory Board. No elected official may serve on Council established Commissions. That does not apply to Council sub-committees.

The Compensation payable by the City to members of the following commissions for actual attendance at their respective meetings shall not exceed one meeting per month: Public Safety & Community Services Commission, Education Commission, Library Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, Senior Citizens Commission, Traffic Commission, Youth Advisory Commission are paid $40 per meeting and Planning Commission is paid $50 per meeting.

Citizens interested in serving on a particular Commission, Committee or Board should complete an Application for Appointment and submit it to the City Clerk's Office via email, fax (323)726-6231 or in person at City Hall.
