Fireworks Information
The City of Commerce allows the use and possession of “safe and sane” fireworks approved by the State Fire Marshal during the following dates and times:
- June 28th – July 5th 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM
- July 4th ONLY – 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM
Examples: sparklers, fountains, smoke bombs, and snakes. (Look for the Fire marshal seal)
Dangerous Fireworks Prohibited
On June 11, 2024, the City Council approved an urgency ordinance to address “dangerous” fireworks by adding Chapter 16.05 – Fireworks to the Commerce Municipal Code. It is unlawful to discharge, sell, or possess dangerous fireworks in the City of Commerce. Examples include skyrockets, firecrackers, roman candles, and ariel shells.
Any resident, occupant, or person in control of a premises on which dangerous fireworks are found or from which dangerous fireworks are discharged shall be subject to the same penalties.
A violation shall constitute a misdemeanor, and may be prosecuted criminally or administratively. Administrative penalties in a 12-month period are as follows:
- First Violation - $1,000
- Second Violation - $2,000
- Third & Subsequent Violations - $5,000
Loud explosions are harmful to pets and create triggers for those with PTSD and our combat veterans. These dangerous fireworks pose a safety and fire concern by starting fires and gravely injuring people. Let’s stay safe and stick to safe and sane!
