The Animal Control Division enforces all state, county, and city laws related to the care and control of domestic animals. Animal Control Officers routinely patrol and handle field calls for service such as taking and filing reports, and assisting with stray, injured, lost, dead, nuisance, and dangerous animals. Also, the Animal Control division conducts monthly pet adoptions, which are broadcast on the city’s cable channel.

When city Animal Control Officers are not on duty, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control is on stand-by to field the calls.

City of Commerce Animal Control will respond to calls and voicemails Monday-Sunday. Your message should include a brief description of the situation, an address or specific location and most importantly a callback number in case the officer requires more information.

Coyote Warning

Recently, coyotes have attacked dogs in Commerce. Please help keep coyotes away. More information about coyotes is available via the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The agency encourages the public to use the website to report all sightings and contact with coyotes.

Stray Animals

Contact Commerce Animal Control if you see a stray animal roaming around the neighborhood. We do not currently pickup stray cats unless they are injured or sick and the LA County Animal Shelter is not accepting stray cats.

Contained Animal

If you have contained an animal (i.e. loose dog) and it was found within the City of Commerce, please contact Commerce Animal Control Monday-Thursday or LA County Animal Control after hours and weekends. You may also drop off the found animal at the LA County Shelter if found in the City of Commerce.

Dead Animal

Please contact the Commerce Animal Control to report a dead animal with the location, description, and estimated size. Animal Control does not retrieve dead animals from roofs or from under the house due to safety and liability.
