Legally Required Disclosure of Public Records

It is the goal of the City of Commerce to comply with public law regarding disclosure of public records and/or information. Subject to legal constraints, the City of Commerce shall disclose upon request, information pertaining to the day-to-day service activity of the City.

Access to Public Information

The California Public Records Act was created to guarantee the access of information concerning the conduct of the people's business, a fundamental right of every person in this state. The public has the right to inspect and/or obtain a copy of a public record.

Availability of Public Information

Public records are open for inspection at all times during the regular business hours of City Hall. Obvious records requests are ordinarily available for inspection on demand or within a short period of time, unless documents are archived and/or stored in another department. The law allows 10 days to respond to a request for public records, unless there are unusual circumstances surrounding the production of a request, which may extend it an additional 14 days.
