Peek-A-Book at the Commerce Central Library!

Peek a bookBring your children and family to the Central Library to try Peek-A-Book, the colorful children's book computer and display in the children's area of the Central Library. Using a touch screen, children of all ages can watch lively previews of children's books designed to get children excited about reading and borrowing the featured books from the library. After reading a featured book, children can test their reading skills by taking a Peek-A-Book quiz about the book they read.

Mission StatementCentral Library

Commerce Public Library's mission is to meet the informational, educational, and recreational needs of the residential and business communities. Library employees provide the public with orientations and assistance on the use of public access computers and the Internet. Children and parents are encouraged to use the library for cultural enrichment and recreation as well as educational purposes. "Leer es poder."

Special Resources Offered
The Central Library provides access to technology via public access computers and the Internet. Our library collection includes an extensive business and reference section. Fiction and non-fiction books for all ages are available in English and Spanish. Videos, DVDs, music on cassettes or CDs, and books on tape or CD, are available for loan at no cost. The Commerce Library also has magazines and newspapers in English and Spanish. Local history information about the City of Commerce is housed at Central Library, including maps, newspaper clippings, and the book, City of Commerce: An Enterprising Heritage.

Special Events Offered
Orientations are provided for the use of public access computers and the Internet. Appointments for computer orientations can be scheduled by calling (323) 722-6660. Children's Story Times are held every Monday at 6:00 p.m. The Summer Reading Program includes special motivational activities including field trips to encourage children to read during the summer months. Class visits to orient school groups to the library are scheduled by appointment.
